It’s not only annoying, but it’s degrading. It’s a fuckin’ racial slur, invented by U.S. soldiers who were stationed in the Philippines during the Philippine-American War and after in World War II, which stood for “fuckin little island people” or “funny little island people”.
Anyone who uses this term to either refer to themselves (I’m talking to you ignorant Fil-Am’s who have taken this term as an act of “pride” without even knowing what you are being prideful of) or uses this term to refer to Filipin@’s (like I just saw on my Facebook by someone who I have already had issues with in regards to their racism and fetishization) I will personally call out on you.
End of rant.
Oh no. I feel like such an ignorant Fil-Am. I’m glad I know now and will NEVER use it.I will also make sure other Fil-Ams know this if I catch them using it. Thank you Ligaya.
Seeing this reminds me so much how assimilated I was and how much of that whiteness kool-aid I drank for such a long time. UGH

I didn’t know that about pinay and pinoy. I thought it was some kind of Filipin@-American thing because no one in canada...
Interesting. I was told it stood for “funny little island person” but I never knew the history. I never had a problem...
Truth! My lola told me that the slur for Filipinos was very bad. If US soldiers used it to refer to us then why are we...
This is why the politically acceptable term is: YOLOPINO
The more you know
@_@ @ the slur. Wtf?
