A look at my two recent visits to Hey Joe Filipino Street Food during Wednesday’s Food Truck Block Party at the Tempe campus.
Lechon Kawali: four pieces of pork belly braised for 15 hours and then deep-fried with a soy-based dipping sauce
I wish there was more to this since it is priced at $8.50. I understand why they price it that high considering the prep for it.
Lumpia Trio: three “meat shop” ground pork egg rolls with an optional sweet-and-sour dipping sauce
My third time trying their lumpia. I will admit that my mother is right that if they halved the amount of salt they put in this dish it would be fine.
Both served with a mound of rice and sweet-and-sour sauce with homemade atsara.
Things that make me wish I never left Arizona.
